If Thoreau is about anything he's about having time to stop and stare and think. This book also makes you stop and think.In this book you have a good collection of his thoughts, presented at their crux points, without the meandering narrative to reach them. This saves time in reading, but means you need to allow yourself to be stopped in your tracks every so often. For someone who reads as quickly as I do this can be a bit disconcerting.In this context however it is a great pleasure to be stopped. Roderick McIver's illustrations compliment the text beautifully, and making stopping a moment or two pleasurable.There's a huge amount to savour in this book- both Thoreau's thoughts and McIver's illustrations. The book is beautifully produced and printed, and this is one to get as a physical book, not in an electronic format.I can recommend this book to those readers who are willing to take time to savour it, and maybe return to it several times in the future.

It briefly presents precise and actionable ways how to apply Kanban as a tool for organizations of different kind and size. Despite being written by a guy who worked for a huge product development organization (Xbox/Microsoft), the book manages to escape insanely popular trend of telling how to scale Kanban, just as consulting business suggests to scale Scrum or Agile. Instead it meets the reality of any software or product development teams, which do not work independently. We had a supposed (certified) scrum master where I worked last but being my first experience with it, I was shocked how unproductive our processes were. Our bug tracking software (Fogbugz) included a Kanban board which got me interested in researching the subject which ultimately led to this wonderful book. After reading it, I have to admit I think this is going to be better than scrum. Can't wait to try it out. This book is highly recommended!

I did not think Kanban would apply to the company I am at, but I am completely convinced that Kanban is actually a big improvement over basic SCRUM. We find the folks learning Scrum keep turning SCRUM into some Agile looking waterfall by extending the sprints and slipping the delivery dates. This book shows in a very practical way how to implement and measure Kanban

Eric's book is quite the intro to Kanban. We watched his talk on YouTube first and then purchased his book and eventually converted our whole team over to Kanban from SCRUM. We couldn't be happier with the results so far.

The book covers the basics and attempts to provide guidance for the move the the new methodology. It is easy to read, the writing enthusiastic and interesting examples are littered throughout the book. It doesn't try to be the single source of all knowledge for Kanban, but offers up recommendations if more detailes are needed, which I personally find refreshing.If you are looking for a good introduction to the Kanban method, you have found the right book!

I liked how this book had everything I needed and more. It is full of information and easy to get to.

For over three years, I lived and worked in Europe. For two of these, I worked at the University of Grenoble in France. Every month or two, I would find my way to Paris. It really is the cultural center of Europe, if not the world. You cannot move without tripping over a cathedral, museum, or historical site. Mostly, I hung out with friends, French and American, but I did a lot of exploring on my own.The Lonely Planet Pocket Paris guide provides very good, if not detailed, coverage of the cultural institutions, museums, stores, and restaurants of Paris. It is the ideal guide for spending a few days in Paris. It is arranged by neighborhoods with individual maps. Perhaps the most valuable features are the outlines for walking tours.There is a folded street map which you really need, especially since a long street may change its name many times along its length. There is also a small Metro map. I recommend getting a larger size when you get to Paris. The Metro is a very efficient way to get around. What you want to see or do depends on your interests. If you like art, I recommend the Cluny Musée National du Moyen Âge for its unicorn tapestries and the Orangerie for the Monet Water Lilies. Woody Allen staged a scene for his movie, Midnight in Paris, in front of the Water Lilies. The guide also includes nearby attractions like Versailles. The rest is up to you.
