I saw this book at barnes and nobles and immediately fell in love with it. I am a person who wants to be off the grid, away from manufactured fruits and vegetables and living a life of self sustainability. Just because this book is based off what happens in the UK does not mean it cannot be utilized in the backwoods of the american south. There are a lot of wonderful ideas that I've been searching the internet for all here in this amazing book and some. Right now, I am in the middle of composting for the spring, summer, and fall months for my little garden and plotting on ideas that can be utilized for the future. What most people don't realize about this book is that it has everything one needs to live off the land in modern times. As a future nurse, I picture that the days that I am not working will be much filled with me working outside making my land count and erasing my carbon foot print from the streets of South Carolina.

This is a great gift for a new homeowner or aspiring gardener but I also enjoyed it as a very experienced gardener. Lots of tips and tricks and ideas to get more out of your growing space, produce more and work in small spaces. I’m keeping this on my reference shelf and have come back to browse and read something frequently.

I actually received my book a lot quicker than expected. Which was great! This book is interesting and has great material in it for the beginner. My husband and I have been researching different options to the city life. Retired from the military we want to settle down with some land for gardening and a few animals. Our age makes living outside a city perfect as we would still be able to manage our lifestyle and keep in touch with my work and friends.

Replacing her as a possible love interest is Adrianna Villa, a Spanish beauty who showed up just in time to save Sean from certain death.Alexander Lindsey, known as the Prophet, has agents located almost everywhere, and even has one in Wyatt's inner circle. He also has agents well placed in the U.S. government and makes things extremely difficult for Sean, Tommy, and Adrianna. Picking up clues from New Mexico and the Grand Canyon, our heroes head to South America one step ahead of the competition. With secret entrances and booby-trapped false leads, Sean and his team must use their knowledge of archaeology and legend to decipher the clues and find the second vault. Lindsey's team also has to deal with internal strife among themselves and multiple assassins working against each other and thus helping Sean. In the end, only one group will be left to claim Father Crespi's treasure.This offering did not seem as interesting as the first story, perhaps because the legends were from another continent. The same problem exists with the lack of editing, perhaps even worse in this volume. I had read that these were being sent back for re-editing, which would greatly help. Still, the story is good and Sean Wyatt is a guy you just have to love.

The Cleric's Vault is book #2 in Earnest Dempsey's The Lost Chambers Trilogy. As you would expect this book picks up where The Secret of the Stones, left off. Sean and Tommy are recovering from their adventure. Sean is looking forward to a relaxing vacation but ends up chasing through the Nevada desert to escape assassins, and of course meets another beautiful woman with a mysterious past, Adrianna Villa, who becomes his ally. Meanwhile Tommy, is pulled into the search for the second chamber, by the murder of yet a new investigator who he has asked to decode the inscription on the second stone found at the first chamber. The story takes off from there with many different venues and involving many different characters from different government agencies, mercenary groups.This book is as exciting as the first, with action on every page. There is as much history and Dempsey's description of all the historical sites makes it seem you are there. There is the same charisma with Sean Wyatt, Tommy Shultz and Adrianna Villa. Adrianna is a real live wire and her air of mystery keeps you entranced to the very last page. I love this series and I can hardly wait to start on book #3. I have shared book #1 with my family and friends and will being doing the same with this one.I did find that it was harder to keep track of all that was going on, as Dempsey would switch to another scene with another group of people several times within the same chapter. I usually like a lighter read, with an easy escape to another world. With this book I had to find a quiet spot with no interruptions. I enjoyed it but it was not as smooth transition from scene to scene. Later, Dempsey, explained in his author's notes that as he was writing the first three books , he was experimenting with finding his writing style. If this is what he was trying to do, with his quick scene changes, I hope he gives it up in book # 3 !Pick up this book, especially if you enjoy Indiana Jones or National Treasure!

The title poses something you don’t actually find in the book and it misses a big point- at least in the United States, Americans receive a tax benefit when they donate clothes so there is a tax incentive to donate a lot of clothes.

This could be an excellent book instead of merely good and informative. The author sets his intriguing analysis of the global used clothing market within a sort of neo-Marxist frame, more readable than one might expect, but it turns an interesting account into a case study for the inadequacies of global capitalist systems, asserting things much change lest poverty be institutionalized. In addition, Brooks uses some words that are likely to obscure his meaning. For example, most readers are not going to be interested in "fetishism" in the market and "semiotic" anything is almost guaranteed to put the general reader to sleep.So why four stars, if I'm this critical? Even with the bias, this is an interesting topic, and the book is full of information, much of it based on the author's experiences in Mozambique and elsewhere. Several chapters stand out. The others, well, readers sample the book before you buy. Chapter 1, "A Biography of Jeans" is interesting. The world market for jeans is $60 billion, an eighth of the global clothing sector. Chapter 3, "The Shadow World of Used Clothing" has intriguing discussion of where used clothing originates and how it is sold. The second hand global trade is $4.3 billion (this seems quite an underestimate), citing UN figures for 2013, and in some countries this used clothes market is the major source for clothes. Chapter 6, "Second Hand Africa" describes some of his experiences in Mozambique, and is informative on how the clothes are actually sold, and how people decide to buy them.One detail I have not seen elsewhere. Each year the US Super Bowl generates a huge amount of gear in advance of the game's result. The losing side gear cannot be sold in the US due to NFL rules, so it enters this trade.The other chapters may be interesting to some readers. One chapter discusses how cotton institutionalizes poverty, and the last chapter looks at ethics and describes some efforts at fair trade and related concepts, and how they play out.

An excellent and well-researched, well-written work. If it is more academic than popular in orientation (or if readers do not know the definition of "system of provision"), that is not the fault of the author.

In keeping with the previous review, I was one of the readers who was put to sleep with unnecessary out-of-touch vocabulary. The most used term, system of provision, is never defined, and is used ad nauseam, often several times per page. I read the book to learn more about the flow of second-hand clothing because that is what I buy for 95% of my clothes. I did not expect to read many quotes from Marx, and have capitalism demonized as the root of all evil. Brooks contradicts himself when stating capitalism is the cause of poverty, yet bringing out other points that lead to poverty also. I often wondered if he did not wish we all were communists and then everybody and everything would be equal. An economic system is only bad because people's hearts can be bad; led by greed, pride, corruption, envy and other traits common to man. I was very glad to finally slog my way to the end of this book, and I would not recommend it to anyone. (P.S. Mr. Brooks, I do not demonize or envy the rich in my country, America. I am very thankful that they pay an overwhelming percentage of our taxes, so that nearly 50% of our country, including the poor, do not have to.)
