Douglas Van Dorn is the author of Waters of Creation: A Biblical Theology of Baptism and Galatians: A Supernatural Justification. This book is one of the best I've read. Well documented facts and solid conclusions are made based on the facts. Everyone should read this book to gain an understanding of how the who, what, when, where, and how of history and God's plan for humanity. Highly recommended if you've ever felt uncomfortable when the liberals call out that mean old God in the Old Testament who wiped out earth's population with a worldwide flood and ordered the execution of the inhuman (men, women, and children) occupants of the land promised to Abraham's descendants. As usual God had a solid reason for ordering this action by His citizen soldiers as they conquered the Giants in the land. It doesn't seem cruel at all once your know why the Lord directed this action. I strongly advise that you purchase, read, study, and grow. You will be glad you did.

This is a well written book, a very detailed book, a very well researched book, and a very PRACTICAL book. One might be thinking, "Giants? Interesting, but I don't see the relationship to myself." That thought becomes Van Dorn's greatest asset. He does a remarkable job connecting all the very large dots to tell a story that matters.The amount of research that went into this book, which is displayed in great depth in the end-notes, is truly unbelievable. This is no speculative fantasy - it's a well documented journey that starts with evil, and ends up where it should - Jesus Christ. That's the relationship it carries to us, and Van Dorn's concern for the "story" (true!) that reaches through the entire Old Testament and continues today should make our spines tingle. Early on in the reading of this book, someone asked me what I thought so far, and my response was, "creepy, but in a good way." If what the author presents is indeed factual, (and he makes a very strong case that it is) then the ramifications are truly chilling. Ancient DNA manipulation? Creatures so terrifying that the movie industry wishes they could come up with them? It's all here, and it all speaks to the ancient truth of good versus evil, where ultimately, the King of King's seals the final victory. If THAT isn't practical, I don't know what is.Every chapter builds on the last, and gives a tour of Scripture that so many have missed or glossed over for so many years. If it doesn't convince you fully, it will at least make you think real hard about not only how you view Genesis 6, but the entire world - let alone the Bible! There is so much nonsense and fascination with the supernatual in the world today, it's great to see a book that presents the truth in a way that doesn't over-extend into conspiracy theory, but also doesn't deny that there are things in this world that need to be understood.Overall, the book is WORTH the read, whether you are a skeptic, a believer, or someone just interested in the subject matter, - you won't go away disappointed. Money well spent.

The topic of this book is way too complex to be covered in one trade book. Dorn tries, and I think succeeds, in making his case that the Genesis 4 Giants are indeed physical giants that were somehow engendered by spiritual forces or "Watchers" by means of, perhaps, genetic manipulation or metaphysical manipulation. At first the notion seems ludicrous but, for over two thousand years Christians have accepted that God "overshadowed" the virgin Mary in order that God Himself could be born a Son of Man or Son of Adam.The fallen Angels, of coarse, are not God but nevertheless have the power to appear in physical form and even eat and, thus it would seem, have the power to manipulate material energy. Perhaps manipulating DNA and/or the normally fertilized ova of human mothers isn't so ludicrous. Perhaps this whole phenomenon was Satan's primary offense against God's prophesy that the woman's seed would crush his head. Perhaps Satan was trying to transform all seed of women into his seed. What better way to spoil God's plan of redemption for mankind and prevent his own destruction and loss of dominion. Perhaps this seed or genetic frontline of attack is what is in view when God describes Noah as "perfect in his generations"--that his (and presumably his wife's) genome was not contaminated with any trace of Satan's agenda.In any case, Dorn makes a compelling case by dealing with every known objection to his proposition and exploring the scriptures thoroughly and also much etymological evidence. But, as I said, the topic is too complex and needs way to much more in-depth research and exploration for one book to be more than a survey of the propositions. I'm intrigued but I'd like to see more.

It is a honest, very well documented and vey well organized approach to the texts in scripture that pertains to the subject. The extra biblical evidence and sources are treated with carefulness and given its proper place in biblical studies. Exegesis of the text and comparing scripture with scripture and not necessarily systems of theology or traditions must guide the biblical understanding of any subject in scripture. The author does just that!!! Excellent. With the exception of 3 or 4 points I agree with the Author!!

I chose this rating because he is so authentic and real in every poem. He is telling women that he sees their worth and they deserve much better than what hey are getting out of men. He's not saying that all guys are dirt bags but he's ultimately telling women that they don't have to settle. He's telling men that they need to get their act together.

The book was nice. He hit a lot of points, wr as women deal with in the world of dating, love, romance, heart break, and lust. He was genuine his approach and explanations. Well thought out. I did not like the "run ons." But hey 4 stars because it's real. It's nice to see that there is one good man left ready to love.

Marv Dunphy's "Volleyball Today"--a reviewThis is an excellent book. It covers all of the volleyball skills and gives cues for teaching. I've been coached by Coach Marv at the Volleyball Hall of Fame clinic, and he is excellent. His book is the same. The book is a bit dated, as it's before rally scoring and let serves, but that doesn't detract from its relevancy to today's volleyball. It is clear and concise and is easy and fun to read. It offers some excellent drills and insights into the game. It covers mental and physical side as well. It touches on offensive and defensive play, although brief it's well done. The diagrams are well done and easily understood.I've probably read every current volleyball book on the market, and this is certainly one of the better ones. I coach juniors, youths and lower level high school ball, but I believe it would appeal to coaches of all levels. Its checklist for emphasis and common errors is quite useful. It's a bit pricey at $47, but if you look around you can get it from Amazon for under $20 including S/H.Bob Hofeldt

This book is over 12 years out of date. The rules have changed significantly since 1999. While the basic techniques are well covered in the book, it is due for a major update.

This is my go-to book when I need to understand a difficult Clojure concept deeply and thoroughly, or when I need to understand some obscure feature of the language. There's information here that's either difficult to find on the web, or difficult to understand when you do find it. No book is perfect, but this one has rarely if ever disappointed me. I know no other Clojure book like it. (For example, _The Joy of Clojure_ is a good book, but what it covers is sometimes idiosyncratic and it's not always thorough.) I haven't read _Clojure Programming_ cover to cover, and I've only glanced at the early chapters because I'd already been using Clojure for a while. However, I think it's probably a good introductory book, at least for someone with programming experience in another language, because the introductory parts of later chapters are very clear and easy. The writing style is professional, and warm but matter of fact rather than cute or overly "friendly". This seems like a good candidate for "If you had to buy only one Clojure book, get this one" status. (Note though that the book was published in 2012. Though most of the language was established by then, there are some features such as tranducers that are more recent.)I have the Kindle edition, and though I think a printed copy would be a little bit easier to use, this is one of the best technical ebooks I've used. Source code resizes just the way you'd want when you change the font size. I imagine that other O'Reilly ebooks work the same way.

I am really not sure who this is written for. It is not built as a teaching book for a new comer to the language and not organized as a reference book for someone who is already working with the language, perhaps best suited for someone who knows Clojure fairly well but needs more depth. It is very tough to follow if you don't know the language or functional programming already. In particular, code examples early in the book use constructs and notations that are addressed only later . For example, the section on macros should come much earlier because macros are used extensively in examples in earlier chapters.

I've read several clojure books, and this one is good. However, I would not make this your introduction to clojure. The book is more up to date from what I can tell (some of the others are getting long in the tooth, since clojure is at 1.4.x now). There are several great things in this book that should really help hone a person's skills in this language.The introductory chapters seem to hurry things long so they can get to the "good stuff." Unfortunately, that will leave people who are new to the language behind. So, think of this as a good second book. Perhaps "Programming Clojure, 2nd Edition" by Halloway and Bedra should be a begginer's first book, followed by this one to take the knowledge deeper. This means that if by chapter 4 you're not really "up to speed" on clojure, the rest of the book will not make much sense to you.Another word of advice to people new to functional programming in general. A language is just the embodiment of programming concepts. If you are coming from a OO background and you are used to the imperative family of languages ie C, C++, Java, C#, etc, then do not assume because you have mastered them that FP will flow easily. There are several concepts in FP that don't map -- they are concepts you have not yet seen. If you do not learn the concepts, the syntax in the language supporting those things won't make sense. When you read people saying "think in clojure" they are meaning to think more in terms of FP and how you'd solve problems in that sense, as opposed to say an OO sense. The problem with most books on functional languages is that they don't spend enough effort teaching the concepts but rather do a quick treatment of the concept and go right to syntax. This approach makes it a bit harder for people to grasp FP.This book tries to come back to thinking in FP -- but way too far into it for beginners. This should have been done more up front, rather than deep in the book. But, if you're not a beginner, then I definitely recommend this book.

This book describes the language in a "depth-first" approach and I found it too difficult to read and follow. Despite I'm a professional developer who already knows Erlang (one of the most popular functional programming language) and has been programming for about 30 years, I found the first few chapters of the very challenging.When the book describes a language construct, it seems like the author tries to present all the features *at once* - no matter it is a basic feature or an advanced feature. Furthermore, the examples in the book contain too many "future references", which point to later chapters. For example, material presented in Chapter 2 contains tons of references to Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, etc. The code examples unnecessarily use language constructs and functions which are not yet mentioned. This forces the readers to give up completely understanding the code examples at the moment, and go back after they read a later chapter.In my opinion, if the book is arranged in a "spiral", "incremental" sense, I will give it a 5-star rating.

I have purchased every Clojure book that has been published so far. While they all overlap in their coverage of core functionality, each book has something the others lack. Clojure Programming is the most comprehensive by far. Not only does it provide some of the clearest explanations of advanced features that typically mystify newcomers (e.g. hygienic macros), but it also covers practical topics such as web frameworks and database libraries. I would recommend this book without hesitation to all aspiring Clojure programmers.

I read alot of real estate books on investing because I enjoy it. However, I really do not like taxes, mortgages or numbers...my mind tends to wander off. But I knew I needed to understand financing and this book was the best! This man is a born teacher and made mortgages interesting for me...if he was teaching any class I would sign right up! I also felt his advice made sense.

The real estate investor`s guide to financing shows you all the financing methods for buying and holding rental properties for long term investors not flippers. If you want to buy all types of investment properties and get loans or mortgages and financing options for them this book tells you how.

good book written in simple language, not a whole lot of confusing finance or real estate jargon, simple language is appealing for a newbie to real estate like me. Also this focuses more on smart ways to financing for real estate than pushing the authors agenda.

very informative book, well written by a knowledgeable author. well pleased to add it to my library of good books.

When it comes to real estate investing, financing is more important than the price you pay for the property! It amazes me that this book is not more popular. I can only guess that the majority of people who buy REI books are beginners that quit learning before they reach the stage where reading a book like this one is most helpful.If you're new, read Dolf De Roos's "Real Estate Riches." Then read a couple more REI books, then read this one. Dolf's book is one of my favorites but it is conceptual. This book shows the nuts and bolts of Dolf's financing strategy. Thank you David Reed!

Writing this type of a book must be a challenge. However David has done a very nice job of explaining Some complex financial products in a way that most people could grasp. He managed to hold my interest on a dry subject all of the way through. From the 1st page through epilogue. This book will stay in my library for future reference. I will read more of his books in the future.

This is a charming book, and I regularly use it with my young piano students. I would highly recommend it.

My daughter loves the workbook lessons. They are a nice addition to the lesson book.

The piano teacher for our 7-year old insists on this series and we are very happy with it. She uses the book for reading and the Audio CD to play along. It makes lessons fun and easy.

This is a great book and series for the piano novice.
