Without a doubt Bob Gruen is rock music's best photographer. The combination of knowing when to take the picture and his ability to move comfortably among the artists at the right time and the right place makes every photo in this book a masterpiece. It helps if you have a love for the New York music scene that exploded through CBGBs and Max's Kansas City in the seventies, other wise you might not be that thrilled about fabulous shots of the Heartbreakers, Dictators and the Dead Boys. Still, there are plenty of stunning photos of the Stones, Zeppelin, Tina Turner, Lennon, etc., etc. for you to revel in. Many pictures were posed, but the best are the candid moments preserved forever when the stars let Bob catch them off guard. This book belongs in your home.
While the photos are good, there aren't as many rockers featured as I expected. I like the idea of the "behind the scene" photos and appreciate Bob Gruen's talent. I just can't believe there are so few rockers shown. It becomes repetitious quickly. I wanted to give this as a gift, but will keep it myself because I do like the photos and don't think it's as good of a gift book as expected.
I absolutely loved this book! It is loaded with tons of the most treasured Rock Star Moments & Memories that us Rock & Roll Fans dream of! Bob's Photography Techniques & Style (Soft Focus), along with his Shutter Speed Manipulation Technique is inspiring especially to me; A Amateur Rock & Roll Photographer - who has had the good fortune of shooting several Musicians (Pat Travers Band, Point Blank, Queensryche "The Band", Geoff Tate's Queensryche, Yngwie Malmesteen, Cinderella's Tom Keifer, Flock of Seagulls, Aaron Carter & several other musicians). I have taken many great shots that were not "Tack Sharp", but instead "Softly Focused", and after reading & reviewing Bob Gruen's book, I realized that themost important message is that as along a feeling is captured, it is & can be a keeper!
Wow WOw WOW!!!These photographs capture so vividly the NYC street and club scene way back when.Page by page, photo by photo was a gem to behold and to explore.Thanks Bob for the great work!!!
Rock and Roll will never die! Especially with the photos in this book. I really like the way Bob took pictures without setting them up. You can tell and you really feel the emotion and almost as if you were there.

Having recently watched the PBS Documentary about Bob Gruen I ordered this book for my collection. Got it used in excellent condition at a great price. It is superb!
