This was the only guidebook I purchased for a trip to Malta. It was helpful, gave a good general overview of the most interesting sights and overall helped us to feel we saw Malta. The pluses: the book included walking tours of a number of cities, including Mdina, Victoria and Valletta. These were interesting and helpful for do-it-yourself explorers. The first couple pages (which are in color) gave a useful overview of different types of sights and activities.Possible improvements:I loved the walking tours, but the information given was minimal. The book was not hefty (around 150 pages overall). Additional information and history could easily have been added here. The entire bus system was redone in mid-2011, about 18 months after this book was published. All bus information is therefore now out of date. The maltese bus system is easy to use, but don't rely on this book for information. The book included some more detailed descriptions of locations (St. John's co-cathedral), but could have easily expanded on those. I don't need a full history book, but this could easily have given more information without being a dense tome.Overall, it's a useful book and if it's you're only guidebook for Malta, you'll be fine, but some improvements are definitely possible.

I am a Maltese American and have been to Malta several times with my family. Recently I took my first trip there with my husband and wanted to be prepared with a guide book since my parents would't be there to show us around. Even though Malta is a small island and is pretty easy to navigate, I am so glad I had this book. It helped me discover gems that even my family didn't know about, and definitely highlighted some of our old family favorites!!!For apartments and rental cars, I still deal with my family and family friends to save money, however for restaurants, attractions, and tips, this book was definitely comprehensive. Having the maps was awesome too. I highly recommend getting a rental car if you go to Malta. You can cover a lot of ground in a short period of time and this book has a lot of detailed maps to help you navigate!

I used this to prepare for my trip, and it helped, however it was not detailed enough once I was in country and used the recommended walks felt it did not give me enough information. Sights were over rated, i.e. "Blue Lagoon", didn't expect a throng of people sitting on a crowded little beach with each inch of sand/rock taken by rentable beach chairs, parasols, Big people transport boats and Party boats blaring dualing rock music at dockedside and anchored in the Lagoon. (that was on a monday- schools were not out yet). Mdina, is not well described enough in the book to "do it yourself".

I can't believe how accurate this guide was. The guide mentions that Buggiba is basically is a culinary wasteland. SO TRUE. This guide will definitely help you get around Malta and Gozo (never had the chance to visit Comino, but there is a mini chapter included in the guide). We never left the resort without it! A word to the wise: prior to embarking to Malta, do read the guide a few months in advance to get an idea of what you want to see and experience. We missed out on an incredible tour because we had no idea we had to book at least a month in advance.

This is a wonderful guide about Malta. I wasn't expecting much as there is little available on Malta.Recommend.

I always purchase travel guides for the countries I am visiting. They provide so much useful information and I can find wonderful hidden items in every place thanks to the authors of these books. Love the information!

Another useful Lonely Planet product. Very helpful on my trip to Malta.

Meh. not great.
