Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849) was an incredibly productive and versatile artist. Over a 70 year career he worked across multiple genres and media. The world knows him mainly for his prints but he was also a painter. He illustrated books, designed cutout dioramas and toys, produced the contemporary equivalent of modern greeting cards, sketched some 4000 instructional designs for his pupils and other artists, produced massive paintings presumably as publicity stunts, and even sketched designs for advertising household products like smoking pipes and combs.Hokusai’s 36 Views of Mt. Fuji was published at the beginning of the 1830s, and was the first major, financially successful Japanese landscape print series in the history of ukiyo-e. While there certainly were landscape-focused prints and series in the decades before this one, none are familiar today except to scholars.The 36 Views was so successful out the gate that the publisher ultimately decided to add 10 designs. So the title says 36 but in fact the complete set includes 46 designs.Jocelyn Bouquillard is curator at the French National Library in the photography and prints department, and he specializes in Japanese landscape prints. His book is a nice, compact way to own a complete photo set of these prints. Each is accompanied by brief explanatory text, and some photos are blown up for viewing detail. Typical art book glossy paper stock is not used here but that helps keeps the price reasonably low.Of critical importance to any volume on this subject is the quality of prints selected for the plates. Here, three 36 Views collections owned by the French National Library comprise the original source material. The earliest of the collections was donated to the Library in 1888. Judging by the richness of color and generally fine condition of the prints given their age, this is a book worth owning.I’ve seen some criticism here which I think is misinformed. Most original or early edition 19th century prints have issues of one kind or another. At the time, knowledge of how to care for works of art on paper was nothing like it is today. So some prints reproduced in this book have issues, but they are not of the kind that would deter a serious, knowledgeable collector. Fold lines down the center or occasional smudges pale in comparison to the quality of original carving and printing which are still discernible._______________________________Mt. Fuji embodies profound spirituality under the ancient Shinto belief that everything has a divine essence. This applies not only to people, but to ancestors - along with animals, inanimate objects, and everything natural - including trees, thunderstorms, and mountains. As the largest mountain in Japan, Fuji carries a particularly deep spiritual significance, easily attracting a devout being like Hokusai.Hokusai’s 36 Views are sometimes compared to Monet’s Haystacks (and the Rouen Cathedral canvases). Working 60 years after Hokusai began the 36 Views, Monet produced 25 paintings which explore haystacks at different times of day in different light, from different angles, and in different weather - exactly what Hokusai does in his series.Is there a connection? We know the Impressionists were in awe of Japanese prints. We also know that Monet had a sizable collection, with a substantial helping of Hokusai. Some of Monet’s most admired work was directly inspired by Japonisme, the love affair with Japanese art and culture which took Europe and America by storm in the later 19th century.

This book represents a somewhat unusual presentation of the set of hokusai prints of Mount Fuji. Unusual to this reader, for two reasons. First, in most books that reproduce these and other japanese prints each print is presented in the same size/page format, with a white border. In this case, the prints are in some cases presented with white border, some are bled to the paper edge top bottom and sides, and others are presented as a band across the page with white above and below and the side margin bled to the edge. This format does help to focus on the content of the images which has some benefits. On the other hand, it is not necessarily clear that the entirety of every print is completely reproduced. The second unusual element is that the originals from which these prints are taken, appear to have more flaws or be less clear prints than would be expected. Many have indications of damage such as a crease or faint line vertically through the middle which I have not seen in other books of reproductions of such prints. The prints also are in many cases quite blurred - such as print number 18, which is shown in an enlarged detail on pages 54/55. Other prints are of excellent quality,and well reproduced - such as print 32. Overal, this set of prints compares quite poorly with other books of Japanese prints such as Sebastian Izzards "Sixy-nine stations of the Kisokaido" (Hiroshige/Eisen)

Although the complete 'views' series, this should not be your 1st or 2nd Hokusai book. The prints used for the Phaidon book are vastly superior (even if the artistic choices in terms of size are suspect). This book is limited to French collections, and some of the prints they use are gosh awful (either that or the French reproduction is incompetent). I would rate it 1 star except that a few of the prints here are as good as, or better than, I have seen elsewhere.

If you do that you're missing the opportunity to grow and learn. Pema Chodron is a wise and compassionate teacher. This book teaches to be present with the energy behind the story, behind the drama. It offers an opportunity to become a peaceful happy person capable of making the world around us a better place.

This is the best book I have read in regards to dealing with anxiety and fear. The chapters are short and easy informative which makes for a great nightly read. I flagged several pages for daily reminders and I keep the book by my bed to reach for when I need calming and constructive help.

I am halfway through this book and it is nothing short of life altering. It is definitely a must read. Especially if you are a survivor. Sometimes we feel the need to numb out what we are feeling in healthy and unhealthy ways, this talks about sitting with those feelings and treating ourselves with compassion.

I've been navigating some challenging stretches over recent months, and I found the tone and spirit of this book to be so helpful. There are parts that pushed me out of my comfort zone and old habits, and then came with a gentle reminder to not slip into condemning ourselves when we make mistakes in our practice to sit with uncertainty and discomfort. Will read again, just wish it was an audiobook!

I’m not even all the way through it and I am recommending it to all of my friends. It may sound strange but I love the way she organizes information. It’s ancient knowledge delivered in bite sized pieces with bullet points that are easy to chew on. If you’re a deep thinker and like to roll around in some thoughts before moving on to the next thing, this book is a great read for you. I am hyper analytical and some books deliver so much information at once that I have to put it down before finishing a chapter. This book is both well written and organized.The message is one that will begin to affect your daily life, especially if you are in a meditation practice. If you aren’t, it may encourage you to take up a practice in meditation and of lovin yourself fully.

Pema Chodron has helped me understand I have choices. During difficult times, I can allow my emotional response to control me or recognize my negative response is making a difficult time harder to process and move on. I love the humor she embraces in her writing and lectures.

This book is the absolute truth concerning the original people of the Bible and the impostors who now inhabit the land of Israel. The research presented here is very accurate, and is a valuable reference to all who seek to know the truth.

I have just got this book I ordered from Amazon expecting to learn some new revelation. On 94 of this book, it says that King Solomon had a son from the Queen of Sheba. I look for a source for this information because as I know as a Bible scholar, no such a thing is ever mentioned throughout the Holy Scriptures in the Bible neither the Old nor the New Testament. To say such a thing in a book that the Bible doesn't say is an attack on Christianity. Many black people are leaving Christianity in groves because they believe that the Bible is written by white people who may have intentionally left out Historical facts about the history of the Black Hebrews to keep them in ignorance about their true identity and history. To be fair to the author, I have only skimmed through the book and my intention is to read through the entire book. But the reason why I bought the book is because I was expecting strong references taken from the Holy Bible and not from questionable, controversial sources such as the “annals of Abyssinia” and a book by the name of “Kebra Nagast” who the Ethiopians holds in very high regard . For example, on page 94, the book says and I quote: "The Queen of Sheba came to court of King Solomon and by all accounts, they did more than play twenty questions. He brought her to the City of David until he could finish building his palace and the temple of the Lord and the wall around the city.” The Bible doesn’t say that he married an Ethiopian or had a son who was later named David. But instead, according to the Bible, David was the father of Solomon. Bathsheba was David’s wife and Solomon’s mother. When the book says that Solomon had a son who was later named David, it distorts and twist the fact that David was the father of Solomon by saying that Solomon had a son (Menilek) who was later named David. When I decide to read all of the book, if I read something that totally conflicts with the teachings of the Bible, I may stop reading the book. But what I have just quoted above may be just enough to discourage me from finish reading the entire book.

This title came up as a book that I might want to purchase, as I had purchased several historicals texts on Khazaria. Unfortunately, I feel that this book was no more than a thinly veiled personal agenda, without historical documentation or unbiased perspective. My suspicions were confirmed when I checked to see that it was self-published. I am disheartened that people are reading this and being lead to believe that it is scholarly or factual. The "conspiracy theory" proposed is little more than another "Protocols of Zion" hoax.

The previous reviewer fails to realize that just because one has shemitic DNA it does not have to mean that they are an Israelite. One should not use the word "jew", because there is no letter "J" or J-sound in Ibrit/hebrew, nor any CORRECT transliteration that has a letter "J" for english. Just the word YAHUWDIM, from the tribe of YAHUWDAH, not Judah.Anyway..One can clearly see by simply using their scriptures that Edomites are indeed Shemitic people from the line of Esaw/Esau. Ya'acob (so-called Jacob) was from the line of Shem, which would surely make his twin brother Esaw/Esau shemitic aswell.So, don't be fooled just because someone says the "jews" in the land of Yisrael have "shemitic blood" that it makes them the Yahuwdim or another tribe of Yisraelites. The Yishmaelites (Ishmaelites) are clearly Shemitic, but are NOT from the line of Ya'acob/Yisra'el..Notice I said Yishmaelites, not "arabs". Just bcuz one is an arab it doesn't make them a Yishmaelite.The children of Ya'acob are not the only people that descend from Shem. There are many "Shemitic" people, only SOME of them are Yisraelites. And NO, those Edomite Imposters are NOT from the line of Ya'acob/Yisra'el!!And the so-called DNA test that they use on the "jews" is against ANOTHER "jew"...OF COURSE they will match!! What kind of test is that!!!?? They just claim "jew guy A" has the Kohanin genetics, and test the other "jews" againt him, LOL!!Let's do some DNA test against ancient skeletal remains that have been found, and verified as Yisraelite remains...THAT would send the "jews" packing.This book is a pretty good read. I suggest that you might wanna read it with 'The Thirteenth Tribe' and Revelation 2:9 in your scriptures ;)Shalom :)

Since then, physicists have tried to figure out whether this similarity of relativity and thermodynamics is a formal coincidence or hints of a deeper truth. Because space-time is made of small elements whose collective motion gives rise to the force we call gravity. In this case, gravity would not be a truly fundamental phenomenon, but an emergent one like temperature, pressure, and viscosity. The microscopic constituents of space-time push inwards on matter and this pulls normal matter in by its gravitational attraction. In the thermodynamic formulation of gravity, the entropy is the number of possible microscopic configurations. Entropic gravity, also known as emergent gravity is an entropic force, a force with macro-scale homogeneity but which is subject to quantum-level disorder, and not as a fundamental interaction. This seller met all my expectation with this purchase. This book is a very thorough look at the history of the silver jewelry industry in the Taxco, Mexico region of the mid 20th century. Many photos - I found this book to be very interesting to read as well as being very informative.

This book is in excellent condition and provided me with the information I was looking for about a specific piece of Hector Agular's work. The item is pictured in the book and as I am forced to sell the piece, I will include the book in the sale.
